I give this book a 4/5 Star rating.

Key thoughts: As a lover of history I enjoyed reading about the time around the battle at the Alamo. The characters were well written and the story believable. This is an easy read and was a page turner for me.

Review:

Ellis Dumont is a young lady who lives with her family in the Texas Republic during the fight for Texas’ independence from Mexico. Clay Gentry is a gentleman who joins a military group called the New Orleans Grey. A group of soldiers who sign on to help those wanting to gain their freedom from Mexico. Ellis goes down to the dock to welcome the soldiers along with others from her community. Here she meets Clay as he is becoming a citizen, and signing the roster to join the fight for freedom. The next time they meet Clay has been shot and is practically dying on the edge of her family’s property. Ellis and her mother treat Clay’s wounds and nurse him back to health but Clay’s memory was not healing as well as his physical body.

Ellis finds herself drawn to this man even though she fears him as he does not remember which side he is fighting for, or even who he is. Clay is enamored with the green eyed beauty, who he feels he knows, but cannot place where he has seen her before. They both circle around their feelings while becoming more comfortable around each other. They are also both drawn to a specific verse from Psalm 91. It is quoted several times throughout the book as both Clay and Ellis gather strength from it.

While this book could be considered Christian romance, as the story shares several bible verses, it never feels preachy and is a wonderful read. It is also book 7 in a series but I have not read the others and was still able to read this as a stand alone, although I might search out the other books now, as I enjoyed this one.

I hope you will check out this book and that you enjoy reading this story as much as I did.

After you read it, let me know what you think!
